Precision Lighting for Smarter Agricultural Research
BASF is one of the world’s largest chemical companies and a global leader in sustainable agriculture. In Belgium, their research team focuses on innovative cultivation systems designed to help farmers achieve better yields with fewer resources – supporting both economic growth and environmental protection.
To power this innovation, BASF Belgium partnered with NLight to install a high-performance horticulture lighting system tailored for research use. The setup includes RV1200 × 970 LED fixtures, paired with a sophisticated 3-channel control system that enables precise control over light intensity and spectrum.
Deployed across research sites in Belgium and the Netherlands, the system is purpose-built for LED horticulture lighting in controlled environments, giving researchers the flexibility to simulate and test a wide range of growing conditions. From crop-specific light recipes to stress-testing new cultivation methods, the setup allows BASF to fine-tune its research and gain deeper insights into plant behaviour, growth cycles, and productivity.
This lighting solution plays a key role in supporting BASF’s innovation-driven agricultural strategy — which centres on developing crop systems that are not only high-yielding and resilient, but also economically and environmentally sustainable.
With NLight’s advanced LED technology, BASF can replicate real-world conditions in a research setting, run comparative studies on crop performance, and deliver data-backed solutions that benefit both growers and the planet.
